Picture of Health
Helping your child learn to take care of herself is important. Making a book about healthy practices is a fun project to do with your child.

What you'll need:

bd14868_9.gif (419 bytes) Construction paper
bd14868_9.gif (419 bytes) White paper
bd14868_9.gif (419 bytes) Pencil or pen
bd14868_9.gif (419 bytes) Markers or crayons
bd14868_9.gif (419 bytes) Stapler or hole punch and yarn
bd14868_9.gif (419 bytes) Camera (optional)

What to do:

bd14868_9.gif (419 bytes) Help your child fold several sheets of paper in half, then choose a piece of construction paper for the cover. Connect them together down the left side of the booklet with a stapler or by punching holes and tying colorful pieces of yarn through the holes.
bd14868_9.gif (419 bytes) Talk with your child about healthy practices you follow in your home such as washing hands, eating healthy meals, getting a good night's sleep and bathing.
bd14868_9.gif (419 bytes) Choose a few healthy practices and write one on the bottom or top of each page such as "wash hands before eating."
bd14868_9.gif (419 bytes) Invite your child to illustrate the healthy practice on the page.
bd14868_9.gif (419 bytes) It's OK if the illustration doesn't really seem to match the wording or if you can't tell what your child is making. Since this is the child's book, her ideas should not be changed.
bd14868_9.gif (419 bytes) The cover can be decorated and a title and the author/illustrator's name added to the front.
bd14868_9.gif (419 bytes) Read your child's book often, displaying it with other important books in your home. This shows her you value her work.
