Big changes are very challenging to children therefore we do our utmost to smooth a child's admission into Jumeirah International Nursery. We recognise that each child is in an individual and will settle into a new routine or situation at their own pace. We ensure the children receive individual guidance and attention in order to facilitate a smooth transition into the Nursery. We stagger the starting times of our new children and our staff are always available to advise and work with parents to ensure a successful outcome.
The First Term
An informal morning is held to support both parents and children at the start of the year in September. This time is spent locating classrooms and bathrooms and asking questions as well as receiving helpful leaflets. Nursery Supervisors and children interact with each other while the parent is present. Every child has a peg on which to hang his/her bag and snack box.
Orientation
Orientation Week is to help settle a child with minimal disruption. All children who are entering the Nursery for the first time will have shorter hours for the first week. It is recommended that new children in the Nursery Department attend a session of an hour and a half per day for the first week. A returning child can resume full time from the second day. Once orientation begins, we encourage parents to stay a short while with a maximum of half an hour in our younger Nursery classes. If parting becomes a problem after the first week, staff use their personal judgement and intervene when necessary. Notes on separation anxiety are given to parents when a child joins.
When children start at the Nursery, we send out a “All About Me” sheet to fill in at home. This includes your child’s likes and dislikes and information about your child that might be helpful to the Nursery during the settling in period. For younger children, information regarding the nappy changing routine, sleeping and eating patterns, favourite songs, games, and food preferences are requested. This information is helpful in order for the staff to familiarise themselves with your child.
Our Nursery year is divided into three terms. These coincide with the terms including International Schools in Dubai.
